Resume
Sandy Storm is an internationally-recognized sculptor, painter and arts instructor. "My inspiration always comes from the people involved in the project - whether it's the strength and emotion of a war memorial or civil rights memorial, or the passion and the love for the performing and visual arts as in "Melody of Arts". The people in my work tell a real story of human emotion, courage and dignity. Look into their eyes and you will feel their inner strength and know what they are feeling."

Sandy is accomplished in oil, watercolor, marble, clay and bronze media. The beauty and passion of her works have won her juried events in Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Florida and Germany. She received the Popular Ceramics Magazine "Highest Award" for sculpture, and the Frankoma Creative Ceramics Award, and over 30 ribbons and best of show awards. Her work has received international acclaim from politicians, Civil Rights leaders, military organizations, and veterans and their families.
"I think my major strength as a sculptor is the intensity of my involvement in what I create in bronze and the emotional impact my sculptures have on those who view them. Teaching sculpture for many years has also showed me how art can change lives, especially of children and the elderly."
During May, 1995, Sandy completed the life-size bronze sculpture entitled The Bataan-Corregidor Memorial: "A Tribute to Courage". This internationally-recognized WWII memorial of 3 life-size figures depicts a true moment in time on the infamous Bataan Death March. The monument was commissioned by the Bataan-Corregidor Memorial Foundation, and was dedicated on May 20, 1995 on Lakeshore Dr. and Monument Ave. in Kissimmee, FL. It continues to draw hundreds of veterans annually from all over the world in emotional remembrances of their sacrifices during WWII.
In a private ceremony on August 9, 1996, Sandy unveiled the Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore Memorial, "The Courage to Challenge". This 7-foot tall relief sculpture is the focal point of the main entrance lobby for the new Brevard County Justice Center in Viera near Melboure, FL. The bronze memorial captures the dignity and courage of the Moore's quest for racial equality and their life and death struggle for justice during the 1930's, 1940's and into the 1950's. In 1951, they were assassinated in their home -- the only Civil Rights couple killed together. The headlines read: "The Bomb that was Heard Around the World". Sandy was competitively selected for this important public memorial from a field of 16 artists.
In 1991, Sandy was competitively selected by the Bay Arts Alliance to produce their first public work of art. "Melody of Arts" is a 75 percent life-size sculpture of a cellist in the midst of a crescendo of emotion. Surrounding "Melody" at the base of the sculpture is a flowing backdrop of bas relief subjects that emanate as music from the cello on beautiful abstract forms, representing all the arts important to that community. Over fifteen 1-foot models also were produced as individual awards of recognition for outstanding service to the arts, and a 1-foot model is also in the private collection of Russell Byrd, Comcast Cable's General Manager in Dothan, Alabama, and in the private collection of artist, Paul Brent. "Melody of Arts" reaches every age group with an emotional expression of love and passion for the visual and performing arts. "Melody" is on permanent display and is the focal point in the lobby of Bay County's Civic Center Marina in Panama City, FL.
Since 1988, Sandy has delivered over 40 bronze sculptures to the US Air Force. Eight were completed at her bronze foundry and studio in Panama City, FL. They include:
In 1989, Sandy opened The Art Haus and Storm Sculpture Studio in Panama City, FL. The facility included a complete bronze foundry for casting and finishing sculpture in the "Lost Wax" method. Sandy moved to Central Florida in May, 1993 and reopened Storm Sculpture Studio. She now uses American Bronze Foundry in Sanford, FL to cast her works in bronze, devoting all of her time to her artwork.
Although Sandy devotes most of her time to sculpture, she has completed commissions over the past 20 years in oil, watercolor, ink and pencil. She completed a limited edition pewter sculpture entitled "Popcorn Matinee" for Panama City, Florida's Martin Theatre Renovation Program. Other Florida thematic sculptures include: "Somebody's Gotta Live Here", a montage of Gulf Coast outdoor activities, and a sculpture and painting of "Sometimes I Smile" -- a tribute to Seminole Chief Osceola's courage and defiance against all odds. Sandy continues her "Melody Series" in both sculpture and pencil drawing formats. Her 1994 drawing of a female violinist entitled "First Applause" received top honors at Barnett Bank's Satellite Beach office.
Sandy is currently working on the Apollo Program Memorial for the U.S. Space Walk of Fame Foundation near Kennedy Space Center in Titusville, FL. Sandra has designed the Apollo monument with 12 large sculpted panels that tell the Apollo story. The centerpiece of the monument is President Kennedy at the podium, which shows his speeches about going to the moon. The tribute to the Apollo mission will honor the astronauts, as well as over 300,000 spaceworkers, and will be the 3rd monument planned for the 2-mile long US Space Walk of Fame Historic Park in Titusville (a 2-1/2 year project). The Mercury and Gemini monuments are already in place. Also as part of the Space Walk of Fame monuments, Sandy has been commissioned to do relief sculptures of astronauts whose hand prints will not be available. Astronauts Grissom, White, Chaffee, Conrad and Evans will be completed as soon as Apollo is finished. Sandy has been commissioned to do the award for the Florida Chapter of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
"Whether it's a war memorial, a sculpture to commemorate an event in history, or a beautiful work of art for the community, my sculptures must tell a story, evoke an emotion, and have meaning, not only to those involved in the project, but to future generations". People want to come back again and again. They reach all ages...they make them cry...they make them smile...they make them think and never forget. "That is the satisfaction for me and for the public. It's an opportunity to give a gift of art meaningful to all."
